I'm having serious problems with my internet connection.
Internet is on a Comcast cable connected through a Motorola model vt1005v modem, which runs through a Linksys 5-port network hub NH1005version2 router. Internet works great on the other computer. The Internet worked great on this computer up until a few weeks ago, one day it crashed and on reboot the error report came back with a message about possiblity of RAM being too low as the cause of the problem. I bought a 512MB Ram memory card last week, and the internet was back up to normal, for about 2 days. It started slowing down again, and gradually got worse, I have tried several things (deleting/uninstalling games, other files; running ad-aware, spy-bot, and Virus-scan; running diskcleanup and even compressing old files) to see if I could fix the problem, but it just seems to keep getting worse, not better. Here's a copy of my Sys info: OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name USER System Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc. System Model KM266-8235 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~1899 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 6/19/2003 SMBIOS Version 2.2 Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1 Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)" User Name USER\Admin Time Zone Eastern Daylight Time Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB Available Physical Memory 168.24 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB Page File Space 1.45 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys Any other information to make it easier to figure out, let me know. I'm wondering if, despite the RAM I added, it still wasn't enough? Is that what Total Physical/Available Physical memory is? IF so, it only shows 512 MB, so where is the RAM my computer had before I added that? So, what else can I do to decrease my RAM usage? I tried closing some of the Startup utilities as well to fix it. If I have to go buy 1gig RAM memory, I can, but it seems to me a waste after having bought the first one, and it only working very short-term, so then this too would end up being short term, maybe longer than the first, but still... Please help, thanks. |

Re: Slow Internet...
It isn't the ISP, our other computer runs fine on the internet. Shortly after posting the first message, I ran defrag, and somewhere along the way something started running faster, thanks anyway though.
