Difficult choice...

I need to choose between:

2 GB DDR2 Ram @ 533 Mhz 4-4-12

or

1 GB DDR2 Ram @ 667 Mhz 4-4-12

Running Windows Xp, however Im big on gaming. Due to the large size of newer games, Im not quite sure which performance boost I want more, faster or more... someone wanna share their opinion?

Re: Difficult choice...

Hi.

I would have to choose the 2GB over the 1GB because i dont think the Speed gain would be big from 553Mhz to 667Mhz.

Thats my Personal Opinion though

Re: Difficult choice...

Its an AN9 32X from Abit. Im not quite sure if it supports dual channel, but judging by the title "high end" and the date of its model's creation, Id say probably. I have no clue how to make it work in dual channel mode though

Re: Difficult choice...

two or four identical memory sticks.. i wouldn't recommend 4 though, as that slows down the mem controller. get two 1 gig sticks, cause xp wouldn't know what to do with two 2 gig sticks anyways...

Re: Difficult choice...

Go for the two sticks of 533 if that is the choice. You won't notice that much difference between 533 and 667. but you will notice a difference between one gig and two gig. If you game, you need the two sticks of one gig each.

Re: Difficult choice...

I think you guys are misunderstanding me.... I have

1 Stick 667 Mhz

1 Stick 533 Mhz

But when you put them BOTH in, the 667 stick runs at 533. Im not buying one or the other, I have that choice right in front of me.

Also, I will be increasing my CPU vCore from 1.3v to 1.45v, and my FSB to 240 Mhz. Did some research and thats the max stable core I can have with stock cooling. Will that effect my RAM in a noticable way?

Re: Difficult choice...

Yep, did misunderstand. Put them in together and if it works, go for it, because it should not cause any problems, but will up the memory and that is what you need.

Re: Difficult choice...

Alright, thats good to know. Now I just need to find out how to OC it... my memory is the low point of my computer according to the Vista rating... the mem gets a 5.0 (hdd gets a 5.6??? HOW!?!?!?), but Id LOVE to OC the mem, see how fast it can go, but I have no clue how to find out proper timings. Running at 4-4-12 FSB 240 Mhz right now...
