Battery Problem

Dell Inspiron B120

Problem:
Computer works fine on house current.
Computer does not recognize the battery. When I go to control and check power area it shows no battery being recognized.
orange light at base of computer is always blinking orange.

i have the same problem on one of my old laptops and have been unable to fix it

How old is the battery? it might need replacing.
