Trying To Fix An Old Computer

I've Been Trying o Fix a 5 or 6 year old computer for someone and i can't figure out whats wrong with it. When i switch it on nothing happens, it doesn't load up it just comes up a black screen but i can hear the inside has switched on. Im thinking it may be the power supply unit isnt at its best anymore but i could be something else.
Any Ideas? Its an old compaq presario 5000 series.

Does it beep at all?

If not, crack it open and check all the connections- especially the seating of the video card, ram, and IDE drives.
