[SOLVED] New build issues with ram

Ok let me first start off with the specs of my new build

4 gigs of DDR2 800 G.Skill Ram (4x1)
P5B Deluxe MOBO
750 Watt PSU (it was highly recommended by the members of this board)
8800GTS 640 MB
1 250 GIG HDD
1 320 GIG HDD
1 500 GIG HDD (All sata)

Running Vista ultimate

heres my problem: Not all of my ram is showing up

Here is what i've done so far
Tested all ram, did dual channel tests to save time, each time BIOS saw 2 gigs of ram.

Thought ok maybe a slot has gone bad since only 3 gigs were showing up.

So I tested all the slots in dual channel each time BIOS registered 2 gigs of ram.

So I said forget about it for now i'ma install Vista since I wanna get up and running

So I installed vista to get up and running vista saw 3 gigs.

I was in BIOS editing my boot options (switching from CD to HDD)

Then as I was passing I looked into north bridge or something like that and saw the option to to remap the ram. So I did. I then thought SUCCESS!~4 gigs of ram in bios.

Yet 2 gigs in Vista

Any ideas?

Re: New build issues with ram

Hello again Nik, the 32bit version of Vista has the same memory limitations that the 32bit version if XP has. It's a limitation caused by the 32bit process not Windows itself. The 64 bit versions of both OSes can address upto 128gb.

Erm ok, so i'm assuming if I upgrade to 64 bit OS and turn on BIOS remapping i'll get 4 gigs of ram correct?

Re: New build issues with ram

Yes, but very few need 4 gigs of RAM or a 64bit OS. If you're a gamer 2gigs is plenty.

Re: New build issues with ram

Going to 64 bit doesn't cost me anything.

I've experienced vista on 2 gigs I didn't like the feel.

O well off to 64 bit then.

I will first going ask for advice about 64 bit OSes though.

Re: New build issues with ram

Just an update, my upgrade to 64 bit windows worked. I now have 4 gigs of ram.

This is what you must do to get 4 gigs of ram.

You must go into your chipset features find the option that says DRAM remapping or Ram remaping or somethingl ike that. Enable it and then install a 64 bit OS.
