[SOLVED] Is this a good PSU?

I'm just wondering if this is a good power supply becuase it's in a combo deal with the case I was planning to buy and I'm thinking about getting the combo. Any advice?

Re: Is this a good PSU?

One of the best ways to tell is by getting the UL number off the sucker and see who is the actual maker of the PSU (can also be done by looking at the innards - voids warranty though), aside from actually putting the PSU threw its paces with automated test equipment and testing for ripple with a oscilloscope (best way im aware of). I can't see the UL number from those newegg photos. you might want to enlist the help of jonnyguru, he seems to know about most every psu in one way or another, he's a psu reviewer. he's a lot of peoples go to guy concerning PSU's. I don't know if he is a member here or not. he's a member of a lot of forums I frequent, though, so it wouldn't suprise me.

A psu is the only component of a system that I know of that can kill most of your hardware when things go wrong with it, so getting a good one is paramount, which you might already know since your asking. Don't buy until your certain you've located a good one.

I bought a diablotek 500watt a number of years back because I thought high watts equals good psu. Turns out that is one of the more dangerous units around when actually pushed to pull its rated power. Wont make that mistake twice.

good luck

Re: Is this a good PSU?

I would not recommend Coolermaster power supplies with the exception of the igreen series. The igreen series is a decent supply.

YOu need to look for something like Silverstone, Corsair, Seasonic, Antec Trio Series, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, or brands similar to those. Start with a high quality supply and you won't regret it.

Re: Is this a good PSU?

I agree. It even uses a cheap sleeve bearing fan. When selecting fans, always go for ball bearing fans because they have a much longer lifetime.

What system specs do you currently have? We can recommend a good supply.
