Question Power Supply for Emachine D4362

What power supply does the Emachine D4362 use? I need to replace the one in my son's computer. The computer shuts down suddenly and has to be restarted. I am going to replace the power supply and the fans.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

I do believe that uses a standard ATX power supply. Before you do that, though, can you get someone to test the power supply? Although your problem does sound like it could be power supply related, it could be someting else. If the power supply is not the problem, it would be unfortunate to buy another and not solve your problem.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

When you power up the computer a big E comes up and just sits there. Not everytime but quite often. You cannot hear anything running, the only way to get ouat of it is to turn off the power supply. At other times it just shuts down for no reason. Also there seems to be a lot of heat comming from the computer which makes me believe that the fan is not working the way it should. The tech at Emachine(Gateway) told me that reformatting would solve the problem of not booting up(the big E just sitting there). This machine has been reformatted a couple of times. It used to be my computer until I replaced it and cleaned it off before giving it to my son. You are right, it could be something else but I cannot think of anything else that could cause this problem.

Hi,

Have you tried a BIOS reset? Please post back if you need instructions.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

Yes I do need instructions. I know how to get into the bios but would have no idea what needs to be changed after I get there. Thank you for your help.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

First ground yourself by touching a radiator or the computer case.
Then unplug the computer from the wall outlet and open the case.
Remove the little "coin-like" battery on the motherboard for at least 5 minutes - then put it back.
Close the case and start the computer.
Enter BIOS and choose "Load setup defaults" (or something similar). Save and exit BIOS.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

I have the same PC. My D4362 started acting up like yours (shutting down suddenly, or when it was moved). Upon carefull examination, I discovered that the CPU fan was somewhat vibrating the Motherboard. hence causing a defect to develop as an open circuit of one of the components underneath or near the CPU fan housing attaching point on the main board.
Remedy: $177.00 for new board from emachine. That sucks. I ll bet that yours is the same problem. let us know. Do you know anyone else who may have experienced the same exact poblem with the D4362? if yes, please email me. I m thinking of filing a claim with emachine for this board deffect, which is clearly not consumers fault or tear & wear related.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

WOW for $177.00 you could have bought a better socket 939 board, PSU and CPU that really sucks

the AMD socket 939 4200 X2 will completely spank the P4 - 3.0ghz

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

Nothing is a direct fit on this old stupid PC. I would need to scrap the 2Gig DDR-RAM, the CPU chip. Then it would cost even more...

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

Linderman,
Thanks man. Found VL33 board Brand New for $59. But, I thinkthe AMD is better overall performace. What AMD CPU should be used for max speed on the Refurb AMD board you recommended above?

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

Sorry I have not gotten back to you. I have not been able to get over to my son's house and work on the Computer. But he called last week and said that it has died. I ask him what happened and he said that the monitor is no longer getting a signal from the computer and it will not turn off. He has to unplug it to cut the power. Is this the psu? My first thought was that the video card had went out but if he can not turn it off it is something else. I really appreciate all the help you have given me sofar.

Re: Power Supply for Emachine D4362

Thanks. I am going to see if I can get him to bring it over to my place and work on it here. I'll replace the psu and see what happens. It was my first guess but I seem to second guess myself. I'll you know and this time not 3 months later.
