Cry Crashes after a minute

Hi all

My WinXP computer has been crashing and it is now so frequent that it only stays up for around a minute or so before dying. I am trying to run a windows memory diagnostic tool and after several re-starts managed to get it to stay going long enough to feed back that there are some errors on the 4th test of 6, noticably WMATS+ errors. It then froze as it was announcing this and I cant get beyond the first test again.

Is this the problem and if so how do I fix, or is there something else that might be causing these freezes/crashes?

Do I just ditch the whole thing and start again?

Re: Crashes after a minute

Hello and welcome to the TSF, it sounds like one of your memory modules is going bad. You can remove one at a time and see which one is giving the trouble. There is no need to panic, its not uncommon to have a memory module fail. If after removing the fist module the computer is fine, then you know which module is bad and in need of replacement, otherwise just swap modules and try the other one.....post back and let us know what you find, and we can help find a compatible replacement module, just be sure to list all your system components

Re: Crashes after a minute

First thing, I would suggest you test the modules one at a time with www.memtest.org and set the timings manually to Cass 2-3-2-6 and lets make sure one is not failing.

Memtest is a great tool, but why are you suggesting to set the timings manually to 2-3-2-6? Without knowing what modules she has in her PC you have no way of knowing what timings they are capable of running.
