Ram Question (quantity)

Hi. I have this mother board D845HV.

Its product specification and Manual said that it support max o 3 GB of RAM
(the Ram Supported is PC133, old I know)

The manual says that this technology is not validated (not tested) on the board, but have been designed for supported. Does someone know if this work?

Another thing it that the manual does not tell anything about installing the RAM in pairs, so Can I asume that I can put 2 Dimm of 512 and 1 Dimm of 256 and the system will recognized 768 of RAM with no problems independantly of the order that I put them?

I want this Mother board running at its maximun capacity for fun and practice, so I will need to buy PC133 of 1GB, but before I want to know if that configuration works

Re: Ram Question (quantity)

you must have an older mobo too probably early Celeron / PII / PIII vintage.

I am, running a Celeron 1GHZ (was 800MHz) (QDI Advance 10) and I use whatever spare memories that I have to hand mixing different makes and sizes. I have no problems
Just make sure that they are all the same speed (133MHz) if you will be running the PC at 133MHz Bus ..
consensus is that memories from the same manufacturer match up & run best ..

Re: Ram Question (quantity)

Intel gives the following info about your motherboards memory here

Quote:
System Memory Features
The Intel® Desktop Board D845HV has two or three DIMM sockets and support the following memory features:

* 3.3 V (only) 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
* Unbuffered single-sided or double-sided DIMMs
* Maximum total system memory*: 3 GB with 3 DIMMs, 2 GB with 2 DIMMs (using 512 MB technology); minimum total system memory: 32 MB
* 133 MHz SDRAM DIMMs only
* Serial Presence Detect (SPD)
* Suspend to RAM support
* ECC and non-ECC DIMMs

* The Intel® Desktop Board D845HV/D845WN have been designed to support DIMMs based on 512 Mbit technology for a maximum onboard capacity of up to 3 GB, but this technology has not been validated on this board.

Note: If ECC functionality is required, all installed DIMM modules must be ECC compliant.

The following table lists the supported DIMM configurations.

DIMM Capacity Number of Sides SDRAM Density SDRAM Organization Front-side/Back-side Number of SDRAM devices
32 MB SS 64 Mbit 4 M x 16/empty 4
64 MB DS 64 Mbit 4 M x 16/4 M x 16 8
64 MB SS 64 Mbit 8 M x 8/empty 8
64 MB SS 128 Mbit 8 M x 16/empty 4
96 MB DS 64 Mbit 8 M x 8/4 M x 16 12
96 MB DS 128/64 Mbit 8 M x 16/4 M x 16 8
128 MB DS 64 Mbit 8 M x 8/8 M x 8 16
128 MB DS 128 Mbit 8 M x 16/8 M x 16 8
128 MB SS 128 Mbit 16 M x 8/empty 8
128 MB SS 256 Mbit 16 M x 16/empty 4
192 MB DS 128 Mbit 16 M x 8/8 M x 16 12
192 MB DS 128/64 Mbit 8 M x 8/8 M x 8 16
256 MB DS 128 Mbit 16 M x 8/16 M x 8 16
256 MB DS 256 Mbit 16 M x 16/16 M x 16 8
256 MB SS 256 Mbit 32 M x 8/empty 8
512 MB DS 256 Mbit 32 M x 8/32 M x 8 16

Note: For Intel Desktop Board D845HV with two DIMM sockets, the maximum total system memory is 2 GB.
SS = single sided and DS = double sided
