OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

Hi all takers for my problem,

I'm not a huge expert on memory but I am quite certain that a tRAS of 31 is completely off-charts for memory. In my case, that's what I have. I have 2 GB (2 X 1GB) of OCZ Gold DDR2 800 memory tCL 5, and when I leave all my timings at "auto" in my bios I get 5 - 5- 5- 31 reported in nTune. Is this normal? Because i once tweaked it once to 5-5-5-12 and suddenly ti fixed all my in-game hitching... however it wont stay at 5-5-5-12, it will blue screen or lock -up each time.

Any suggestions?
Thanks, CHimp

If the ram was not stable at 5-5-5-12 @ 2.1 vdimm you can try it @ 2.175. If you can't get it stable @ it's rated speeds with the proper voltage I would consider an RMA.

Have you ram Memtest?

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

memtest failed completely @ 5-5-5-12. After a few minutes i had 100 errors so I didn't even bother finishing the test. I'll get new memory.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Chimp

PS can you tell me if this is good memory? Im scared as heck now and i need some assurance :P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220144

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

I've never had any experience wit Patriot but I've heard nothing but good things about about them. OCZ is typically good also. BTW if you RMA and get a different brand Newegg will likely charge you a restocking fee. It's your call however. Corsair XMS is also good ram.

Keep me posted, and good luck to you.

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

Well, Newegg wont' let me refund it at all. :( Theyll only let me replace it, and I really dont' want to try that... so I have to go through OCZ and talk to them. Only they won't pick up or respond to my emails. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Either way, I'm still getting different ram :P Still looking, thank you for ur suggestion, ill keep it in mind.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

I think the issue behind this is that the memory isn't compatible with my motherboard.... I checked OCZ's "compatible memory" section and my mobo wasn't even on the choosing list :P

Thank you Lindenman I am posting on the OCZ forum now. Will keep you guys posted in case I need yas.

Ty so much,
Chimp

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

is anything in the system overclocked?
if the ocz isnt on the qvl list, you might as well rma the ram.. many times we will be able to make the ram kiss the mainboard regardless, by tampering with the voltage and timings, [ adjust with the slightest incriments only ].
take 1 ram chip out just for the heck of it.

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

Yes, my E6420 is OCed from 2.1 to 3.5 and my video card/pci-e bus has been overclocked through ntune.

The FSB/Memory was set at unlinked so the memory clock operates at 800 mhz no matter what i set the CPU at. that shouldn't be the problem.

take one out? then what?

Thanks
chimp

Re: OCZ Gold, omg... tRAS at 31?!?!?!?

Remove the all OCs and see if the RAM runs properly.

If it turns out that it's just a compatiblity issue with the motherboard, OCZ will likely replace it with the correct model if you RMA through them.
