Problem with Emachines T3612

I own an Emachines T2341 and I love it. It's been very very reliable. I've had it for 3 years and never had a problem. The thing is virtually indestructible so I advised my parents to also get an emachines and my mom got a T3612 model but the first one she got zapped out after 2 days of use. Seemed to be some kind of power supply problem. So she exchanged that one for another one and after about 2 months of use on this one, it has also zapped out or something. Is it the computer or an electrical problem at my mother's house? My mom's house is an older house. It still uses fuses where you have to replace the fuses every so often. I used to live there and I had my computer hooked up there for a full year in a different part of the house and never had a problem. Are the new Emachines defective?
