is my RAM or PSU bad?
I just installed a 1gB crucial RAM into my mobo (had to upgrade bios)
bios & winxp recognize the RAM, here's the thing - my computer freezes after 5-15 mins, usually if I'm doing something (not when idle) memtest86 freezes on test#11 (no errors) SpeedFan reports Vcore = 1.45V +12V = 12.10V 3.3V = 0.61V Vcc = 5.07V Vin2 = 0.00V 5Vsb = 5.01V Vbat = 0.00V so it looks like 3.3 rail is failing - just coincidental to my new ram? 3.3v also powers my mobo & ram, so I'm told I ordered a new PSU, but just wanted to put it out there to see if anyone ever had this happen after upgrading RAM |

Re: is my RAM or PSU bad?
what is the CPU temp when it freezes? you can run pcwizard in the background and it will leave the CPU usage and temp on the top right of the screen.

Re: is my RAM or PSU bad?
the CPU temp is okay, if that is its temp of 38º-39º. but that could also be the system temp. was that a typing error?
the HD temp is quite high. it should be <40° and closer to 30°, but i doubt that is causing the freezes. it does not help its longevity though. i mount the HDs in the front of the fan that draws air into the case. i found that has lowered HD temps by up to 5º. the voltages i always thought should be ± 5% of the expected value, so the 3.3 seems way out. see what values you get with the new PSU and post back if it continues to freeze
