Could my RAM be causing the blue screen of death?

I can't remember when it started, but I know it wasn't before I bought my 2xGIG of ram.

I get the BSOD randomly. It usually says something different each time. When I was using Vista, I did a memory check and it said that there is a problem with the RAM, but I did a check on XP and it said there were no problems. I'm doing an extended test at the moment.

I'm going to PC World later because I bought it off them (their own make-component shop), but I don't think they're very well trained and I don't think they would know what to do and wouldn't replace it.

Re: Could my RAM be causing the blue screen of death?

I just went to PC world. They said it's unlikely to be the RAM but if I get a bank statment with the payment on he will replace it.

He also moved a RAM stick to another slot, saying it will make it faster. Apparanltly if you have two you should put them in the same colours or something... (This wasn't done to fix the BSOD)

He just said to note down what the BSOD says next time and what programs are running.

I'm just writing this incase someone is having the same problem. I've been trying to figure out what to do for months!

Hello Kitten, and Welcome to TSF.

If you post the stop error code that you are getting along with the file or driver that is refernced on the BSOD then when can help analyze your problem.

Thanks
