Did I Kill My PSU??

Specs:

Core 2 Duo
Asus Mobo
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce

Problem:

I was going to head over to a friends house today to LAN it up but i hadn't re-installed my wireless card into the computer yet since my last upgrade to the above 3 parts and my new powersupply, a 575watt LOGISYS ATX power supply.

Well i went and got out the old wireless card, belkin wireless g card, and took off the cover to the pc, put her on her side, and grounded myself on the case. Then i attempted to put the wireless card in one PCI slot but it just wouldnt fit so i began taking out my sound card, removed that, and then replaced all the parts. Then i went to turn on 'ol faithful and to my dismay the little indicator light on my motherboard was no longer lit and pressing the power button the the front wasn't doing much either.

I believe my mistake was that, even though my computer was off, i didnt exactly turn off the PSU or unplug it so i think i shorted it or blew it out some how. If someone could shed some light on my situation thatd be great. Thanks...

Re: Did I Kill My PSU??

Hi Pat, welcome to TSF

This is probably just a loose connection. Make sure all the power connectors, cards, and RAM sticks are firmly inserted and the data cables are connected at both ends.

Have you tried booting with just the minimal components installed? (RAM, graphics, hard drive, keyboard)

Re: Did I Kill My PSU??

thanks for the reply, i decided to go out and buy a more reliable PSU anyway so now i have the old one as an extra, i'm making this post from my computer that was in question, i decided to move my ram sticks, 1gb each, to the other two open slots and i also removed my cpu fan blew it off and the cpu and replaced it

i did the 'ol green to black wire paperclip thing with just the old PSU and a CD drive and it worked so it musta been either not enough power or a loose connection like you said...

i now have an antec true power trio 550 watt in my desktop and i havent tilted it upright in some time but im scared to because the core 2 duo retail fan is loose like a hooker and im scared that itll fall onto my expensive parts, ie SLi ready geforce 7600gs

Re: Did I Kill My PSU??

did you redo the paste when you disturbed the heatsink
if you don't fix the fan so there is no movement you will have heat problems
