PSU on Dell Dimension 3000 - - Help Please!!
Hi --
I have been having trouble lately with my system -- here's what happened: I have a Dell Dimension 3000. I was attempting to replace the fan in the PSU. Once I had installed the new fan, to test connection, I plugged the PSU in before I had re-assembled it. I didn't realize, though, that the circuit board in the PSU was laying against a piece of sheet metal when I did so. Needless to say, there was a big spark, some smoke, and the PSU was dead. Stupid on my part, I know. Anyway, I went out and bought another power supply. This being a Dell, I had heard that I needed a "Dell Specific" power supply. So, I found one at MicroCenter which claimed to be "for Dells" and I bought it. When I hooked that one up, however, it didn't work --- no power at all. Next, I tried a standard ATX power supply, a Dynex DX-PS350W that I bought at Best Buy. I connected it and fired up the computer, but the only things that turned on were the fans and the CD drives. No motherboard, hard drives, etc. So, that's where I'm at now. My friend, who works in IT, thinks I may have fried the motherboard when I shorted the PSU, so now I'm thinking about buying a new motherboard. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!! Andrew |

hmmmmm 300 watt Dynex may well be too small to fire up the system
do you have any PSU that is better and bigger than Dynex
