Power/Fan problem(?)
Hey guys.
So last night I was on my PC quite late, just browsing the internet, chatting and listening to music, pretty standard stuff, when my PC started growling at me, quite loud. Almost immediately I closed my computer down safely, left if for around 5minutes, then booted it back up to see if the problem would have just disappeared, unfortunately not! So after I boot up, there is no noise for some 5-10 minutes then kicks in, and I don't think it is anything I do which trigures it. I opened my case and had a look inside, because I thought it may be a fan problem I purchased some 'airduster' from Maplin to clear out all the dirt, dust etc that had collected inside. Even though it had a nice clean, it didn't solve the problem. At first I thought it may have been the fan on my CPU, so I checked BIOS on boot, and watched the temperature and fan RPM until the noise began to happen again. My CPU temperature stayed between 25-32 degrees (3245 RPM), as did my Sys temp (5300 RPM) - I assumed this was normal? They didn't drop as the noise started, so I thought maybe it was the fans inside my Power supply. This makes some sense, because when tap the PC case on the top, the noise slows, as if the motor or fan is slowling down then speeds up again. As the power supply is at the top of the case, it would make sense for it being the one making the noise, but it's hard to tell. Because I can't get inside the power supply (and for good reason I assume!) I can't really identify the problem. Does the noise mean my PC is in danger? Are there any solutions or ideas to my problem? How difficult/expensive would it be to replace the power supply? Can I check the fan rotations of the power on the BIOS? Lots of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks, Edd. |

Re: Power/Fan problem(?)
Welcome
Post the info on the side of the power supply presently installed, along with your computer specs. Do not take the supply apart, as it can hold a charge even when the cord is unplugged from the wall.

Re: Power/Fan problem(?)
Hey.
The power supply is the "HIPER HPU-4S425". The info is best displayed on a website, rather than me typing it out (it was in tables) and because I'm not entriely sure what it is you're after, there's everything and more on there. :) http://www.pc-look.com/boutik/Prod_H...ml?language=en (scroll down a little). As for my specs, since I'm not so great with PC hardware I uploaded my dxdiag in a .txt file for you guys to check out. I have had my PC specs indentical to this for atleast a year now, which no problems up till now. Thanks, Edd. |

Re: Power/Fan problem(?)
Sorry for such a silly question, I'm still pretty new to hardware business, but are my specs not in the dxdiag? If you just gimme a few things you'd need I could find them manually, or if anyone knows a good way to check.
Thanks. |
