[resolved]Computer tries to power on, makes click noise, turns off, repeats

Hey guys,

I was planning on buying a new ram stick, so I took off the case to my computer, took out the RAM and took down the numbers, and stuck it back in. I didn't unplug any other wires, or try to touch the motherboard in any way. My experience with computer hardware is basically limited to putting in and removing ram sticks.

But now whenever I try to turn my computer on, it powers up for a second or two, the fans starts and everything, then it makes a weird click noise, and the whole machine shuts it self down again, just to have this process repeat over and over.

Any idea what I did wrong? and how I can get my computer running correctly again?

Are you sure you got your RAM firmly seated in place when you put it back in? I'd recheck it before doing anything further troubleshooting.

Yea... It's safe to say I feel pretty stupid right now. That was the problem, the ram wasn't seated correctly.

Man is my face red.

Thanks for the help.

Check the power leed to the motherboard, and the cpu fan. Make sure they werent disturbed. Pop the battery out for 10 minutes after you unplugged the computer and grounded yourself to the case.
Was the computer unplugged and did you destatic yourself before you pulled the ram modules?
