Problem with new Ram I just bought.
Hello, I've become really frustrated with this situation and was hoping someone could help me out. I recent purchased two sets of A-DATA Vitesta 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211014) to have 4 gigs in my system. I previously had 1 Gig of PC266 DDR installed, which continues to work fine. I installed this new RAM and when I do something highend, such as play Raindbow 6 Vegas, it would freeze only after a few minutes. I tried it with just 2 gigs in, and with 4, same result. I'm wondering if there is a setting I should be changing in my BIOS or something I'm doing wrong. Here are my specs:
Intel Pentium4 531 Socket 775 3.0GHz 800FSB 64T MachSpeed X-Caliber PT88BS Pro Via Socket 775 ATX Motherboard ASUS N 6600 256MB Graphics adapter N6600/TD/256MB Not sure what else I can list that would help. Any and all help is much appreciated, thanks -Sam |

Re: Problem with new Ram I just bought.
Hi,
Welcome To TSF. Can you please provide us with your motherboard spec? It could be that the RAM is not compatable with your motherboard. You can still using it but there will be verious problems. Have A Nice Day. Jay. |

Re: Problem with new Ram I just bought.
How did you install the pairs? Makes sure you installed them: one kit in yellow slots and one kit in blue slots. Do not mix the kits up as they are matching.

I didn't really pay attention
. But I'm not sure that would have an effect on it. I checked all the numbers on all the chips just now, and there's no difference in any of them. No way to tell them apart.

Re: Problem with new Ram I just bought.
Will it work with a single stick of memory? You might also try and go into the BIOS and force the MB to run in single channel mode.

Re: Problem with new Ram I just bought.
Yes it does work with one stick in, I do also think it may have to do with the dual channel mode. Is there a way to set it to single channel mode even with 4 sticks in? I have a Phoenix Award Bios Setup, do you know where i might find this option, or what it would be called, I can't find it.

See if there is a bios update available, and check if this memory is approved for the board, [ is it on the qvl list ? ] I never was a fan of this memory.

Re: Problem with new Ram I just bought.
If each stick of memory works individually in the motherboard, I would suggest returning it and getting different memory. As It seems they are not compatible in dual channel mode. You might want to spend a little extra for some known branded, higher quality memory, such as crucial, corsair, mushkin, etc.
