System power problem
Hi all, My computer is stuck in some weird mode where the power light seems to "flicker" on and off. Here's a basic rundown of what happens. BTW It's an Emachine I bought in 2003, I don't know the exact model # and I'm running Windows XP if thats any help.
1. I plug in my computer to the receptacle. 2. I hear a beep and my power light flickers on and off rapidly. (sometimes it speeds up and slows down then dies out all together, along with a disturbing clicking noise in my speakers) 3. The fan on the power supply is the only ting that seems to be working but it runs very slowly. 4. There is no output from my CPU to monitor. (I'm writing this thread from work) 5. All input (including pressing the power button) is nonresponsive. I have to unplug my computer to get it to stop. Is my power supply bad? Voltage regulator maybe? Please help. |

Re: System power problem
Thanks for your quick response to my question. I was thinking it was the power supply also. I did a little research on the Emachines power supply being substandard and it seems like they are not very compatible with other with other brands. So do you think it would be better to buy a new power supply from Emachines (knowing they suck) or is there a univesral one out there that is better and compatible?
Thanks again! |

Re: System power problem
I've always replaced them with a standard ATX supply but in the past some E-machines used a smaller physical supply and the standard would not fit without modifing the case.
