help, New RAM wont work?

hello, i recently purchased this, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1951927 , it is PC3200 which is compatible with my motherboard.

motherboard specs are here http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...cs.htm#1119251

I put the new RAM in and when i plugged the power supply back in it gave off 6 or so beeps and then nothing happened. i pressed power button and nothing happened. i thought that it might be because of my other RAM I had in my system but I took that RAM out and it gave me the same error. i cant think of what the problem is. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try resettting the cmos ( Bios ) by either using the jumper or taking the cmos battery out for 5 mins or so

Re: help, New RAM wont work?

i checked corsairs website, on a troubleshooting page it said this.

Many systems will indeed support DDR 400 memory. However, if for example your system came with a 533 FSB CPU you may be limited to DDR333 memory until you upgrade your CPU to an 800 Front Side Bus (FSB) CPU provided your system will support a faster CPU. The following guidelines may help with this: If the FSB of your CPU is 400 For Intel and 100 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports only DDR 266. If the FSB of your CPU is 533 For Intel and 133/166 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 266/333 If the FSB of your CPU is 800 MHz for Intel and 200 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 333/400

this might be the problem but it says on the page where i bought it " This memory has been verified to operate at 200 MHz (DDR400) at aggressive latencies of 2-3-3-6. "

could this be the problem ?

Hey throxx,

well by rights your system should slow your ram down to 333, the beeps are important as they will tell you what the problem is, you need to find out exactly how many and if they are long or short, for example 2 short and 4 long ect

Re: help, New RAM wont work?

Have a look here and it may help you, I would try and borrow some ram and see if you have any success with it, it could be bad ram or just a case of it not being compatible despite what they say
