Computer wont start now that ive installed more ram!!

Hi guys,

great site.

my computer info is:

Intel Celeron 2.60, 400mhz emachine
256mb ram
as far as i know, the motherboard is Pheonix??
ive run aida32 and its picked up the motherboard id of 31861.EM.0000.D.0309161018 if this is any help??

ive just bougt 1gb pc2700 ddr stick of ram which is made by vantec and got a heatsink included.

ive looked on crucial & they said that this spec will work so i took out my existing stick of ram.

ive installed in and when ive started to boot my pc, it gets as far as the intel screen then reboots. then goes to the screen where it says windows wasnt shut down correctly. if i sleect start as normal or in safe mode, it reboots again & same thing happens.

if i put the origanal ram back in, it works fine.

any help would be great.

Welcome
Reset the cmos, pull the button battery out for 10 minutes after you unplug the computer.
I am not so sure that board accepts 1 gig sticks.
See what Everest says.. with the original stick installed.

ive ran everest but cant find on there where it would say my max amount of ram i can install.

Re: Computer wont start now that ive installed more ram!!

ive found the battery. took it out for about 15mins, put 1gb memory in & rebooted. computer just beeps & shuts down 10secs after booting.

is there any way of finding out for sure what size ram my motherboard can take & how to find out the make of the board? i've looked at a few threads on this site & a few people have used crucials web scanner to see what they can use & find out that its wrong.

Re: Computer wont start now that ive installed more ram!!

write down the sequence of the bios beep code, this will tell you what is wrong
you can check the error code here
www.bioscentral.com
you have a pheonix bios so look under pheonix
