RAM latency question

hey i recently purchased: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP , and one of the main highlights of the memory stick is the 2-3-3-6 CAS latency. i am kind of new to memory upgrades of this type and i was wondering if there is anything i should do to take full advantage of this new memory stick. i dont really want to overclock but was mainly wondering about any settings i should fix in bios or whatever.

**also if anyone wants to let me know if this was a smart purchase or not and what they think is the best pc3200 RAM out there is i would appreciate it. thanks*****

Re: RAM latency question

The link is broken, just gives an error. Latencies are the timings RAM use to access, store and write data. These are expressed in numbers, and represent clock cycles. Generally the lower the timings, the faster the data gets accessed. However, as RAM speed increases in MHZ, timings are hard to keep low, and get higher.

As for anything special to do, no. Unless you manually set timings on your last module, the computer will determine the stock speeds and keep it there. If you're adding this module to one that's already there, you might be looking at trouble. Dual channel motherboards require matched pairs of modules to run correctly. Mismatching will only slow it down.

Re: RAM latency question

As Rashiki stated, the link is broken.

ATM in time I'm using a system with PC3200 DDR SDRAM running @ 2-2-2-5-8 1T, which is quite quick although you can get better, notably DFI boards.

Latency, especially CT and CAS can make a good difference in system performance.

Re: RAM latency question

If you are getting the one RAM stick, then get into the BIOS after installation and drop the RAM timings to CAS 2, Command Rate 1, and/or additionally/alternatively it may offer another option whereby you can choose "Ultra" for the RAM settings. That would probably be 2-2-2-5-8 1T and offers a good boost from the stock settings.

That RAM is a solid choice. Although you don't want to OC at all, even OC'd further to DDR500, it can run these timings.
