Adding RAM to Toshiba Laptop

Hello,

I am new to adding RAM so here is my question. I am awaiting a stick of 256 RAM to go in my Toshiba Satellite 1805-S274. I am sure I have the right RAM (144 pin PC133) and lokoed to find the expansion slot. When I opened the place where I was told RAM is added the existing RAM (256, can go as high as 512 on this machine) there is not an available slot to put additional RAM. Does anuone know where the expansion slot is? Did they put all 256 in BOTH slots? If so, WHY!!?? If anyone has experience with this or can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Todd

Re: Adding RAM to Toshiba Laptop

from what you are telling us it looks as if your laptop has 256mb ram ( 2X128 ) so if that is the case then you are going to either have to buy 2X256 or remove 1 of the 128mb sticks. I don't play with laptops a lot but from what i have seen it is pretty standard to just have 2 slots for ram

Re: Adding RAM to Toshiba Laptop

Well it seems that the existing RAM is one piece using both slots. So I guess I'll have to take it out in order to get 2 256 chips in there. The place to put the ram has markings that say slot A and slot B with both being used by the same chip. Sucks cause now I have to buy another 256. I guess I'll put in the new single 256 and sell the old one until I can get another 256 for the other slot.

Does anyone know if there is a trick to taking a chip out that is in BOTH slots? It has 4 places to unsnap it.
