Old Ram not showing up With new ram

Ok i just purchassed a new 1gb Stick of ddr2 (667) SDram i previously had in 2 sticks of 512 mb ddr2 (533) Ram my old ram does not show up with the new ram i've tried every slot configuration and I always get 1gb of ram showing. I looked in my bios and it only showed 1gb so I updated that, nothing. I can run Everest and it shows both sticks as being installed. Is it because of the different FSB?Looked on computer manufacture website and it does say expandable to 2gb. any suggestions my computer stats are as follows:

Emachines T5212
Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2
Dual Core Intel Pentium D 805, 2666mhz
System Mem : 1024 mb sdram ??????
Bios Type : Intel (12/11/06)

Ram

Samsung M3 78T655CZ3 - CD5
512mb (1rank, 4 banks)
Unbuffered
DDR2-533 (266 Mhz)
(Computer Originally had 2 Sticks of this ram and recognized both and showed 1gb of Ram)

Hyundai 1GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM

1024 MB (1Rank, 8 Banks)
Unbuffered
DDR2-667 (333Mhz)

Do I need 2 1gb Sticks to get the full value of both slots all I really wanted was a slight upgrade and goto 1.5 gb of ram any comments suggestion would be greatly appreciated if any other info is needed just let me know TYVM.

The speed should be the same on both.

Re: Old Ram not showing up With new ram

What will happen if you install two different speeds of ram is that your system will slow the fastest ram down to match the slower ram, so in your case the 667 will be slowed down to 533.
Now as for it showing as 1G that could be a compatibility problem. It is preferred that when upgrading ram that you buy identical units so there is not chance of conflict.
There is no way to know how 2 different sticks of ram will work together or if at all, it is just hit and miss

Yes, thats what i would do, it is sometimes hard to mix and match different brands of ram. plus you are better off using the increased speeds of 667
