SPI PSU's

After testing it in both of my systems, I concluded that my generic 400 watt PSU had to die. I put it on a log round and killed it with a sledge-hammer! Man, that felt good. Haha. Anyway, I need to get a new PSU...I was wondering if SPI make a good one? I currently have a 350 watt one that seems to work fine, but my experience doesn't go beyond that. My system is not powerful...only about 1.6 gigs, 64 mb GPU, 1 gig ram, three hard drives, and a dvd drive. I just want something that won't shut my computer off at random times. Something good quality. Any good known brands that I should look into?

Re: SPI PSU's

Take a look at the power supply info in my signature, there's advice and suggestions to good PSUs, and don't hesitate to post back with further questions if you need to.

Also remember, a few dollars more now, will save you in the long run. Either with computer breakdowns, or your electric bill. The good supplies can run at 85% efficiency, compared with the usual 70%.
It does add up as most computers usually log up the hours pretty fast

Going off a brand name is very iffy nowadays. At one time SPI/FSP was formidable, but not anymore. You have poor units, mediocre and high quality all mixed in. SeaSonic and baby SeaSonic aka Corsair are the exceptions ATM.

Anything such as a CoolerMaster iGreen, SilverStone Element EE, Antec TP3, Antec Earthwatts, Corsair HX, SeaSonic S12, S12 EE are perfect at the 400W-500W range.

To add to speedster123's recommended link are two of the best 500W, especially at price-point and also 80PLUS certified:
Enhance 5150-GH: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-E5150GH
Antec Earthwatts: http://www.provantage.com/antec-ea50...AA&gl=us&hl=en

I've really gotta stop posting 1st thing in the morning when I'm still half asleep. I must of glanced at Munkyphils location and thought it was dedseksys.

That EA500 for $40 is a fantastic deal. Nice find Kalim.
