ram stick not working

hello,

i am trying to get a "hynix 1gb pc2-5300u 555" ddr2 ram stick to work on a
"asus p5vdc-x" motherboard but when i try to start my system the red loading light just stays on and the computer does nothing. in the manual it doesnt state this ram stick as being supported but i was wondering if there is anyway to maybe make it work?

I believe this board will accept ddr and or ddr2 ram. You arent using both types are you?
specs - - DDR2 SDRAM Frequencies: PC2-3200 and PC2-4200

nope, i was using 2 ddr 512 mb sticks but took them out before trying this new stick , it has 2 ddr2 slots and i tried it in both.

Before you try any bios updates, try clearing the cmos, either by the board jumper, or by pulling the cmos battery out for 10min.

Either way, of course, unplug the machine, and destatic yourself, [grab the metal case before entering]

Hi,
Clearing the Cmos puts your BIOS back to default settings (if that makes any sense to you).
