looking to upgrade my current PSu
I have had Antec TruePowerII 550w PSU. Check my full specs for the rest. I'm thinking about a quality 650w PSU. Any suggestions?
I'm going to put the TruePowerII into an older system I have that has a crap PSU that came with the case. I checked the voltages on that PSU and they are way too low. |

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
the best unit right now for the money IMHO is the antec trio power 650 watt they run around $110.00
If you want the BEST one for your rig then Seasonic S12 600 watt that is wisper quiet FOR REAL but then again sooooo is the antec trio another real power house is the Corsair HX620 Thermaltake Toughpower makes a 600 650 or 700 ?????? (but only the toughpower here) those I would say are some of the top picks IMHO if your current true power 550 has done the job for you, than any of the ones I mentioned in 600 watt versions will easily pull the wagon! goodluck shopping

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
I was looking at the Truepower Trio 650w at Newegg.com earlier.
Truepower Trio I noticed it has multiple 12v rails. I know I've seen you say that isn't as good as a single 12v rail with higher amps. Now, my question is, down the road if I decided to put a X1900 crossfire card in, would the Truepower Trio stand up to the test? I know it has enough juice to push the system in general, but would the multiple rails hurt? Other than that, I can't seem to find the Seasonic S12 600w PSU anywhere. Got any links to that? |

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
I'm only posting this because I saw a sale at Fry's Electronics for a Raidmax 630W Powersupply for $39 After rebate with a sale price of $79 to get you out the door. I have a raidmax case myself and have used that power supply in another machine and I don't have any issues to report though I can't really say how quiet it is either. It has 2x80mm fans sporting out glossy back with a blue LED in each of the fans. It's quite a nice LOOKING power supply but lets hope it's price is based on performance and not extras like LED's and nice paint.
Check it out for yourself: http://shop2.outpost.com/product/480...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG Note the price on the site is $20 more before rebate but the ad I saw was the in store price. A review: http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Power...t-Power-Supply Sorry for budding in here. Just thought I would throw that out here because that sounds like a heck of a deal. Quote:

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
Hi,
Personal advice, skip the raidmax power supply. Sure does look nice, but performance wise, it is not a top-of-the-line supply. IMHO, the TruePower II 550 you are moving away from is most likely a better supply than the Raidmax 620. That would be one heck of a buy if it were a good supply.

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
The raidmax is actually on the hall of fam do not buy list which I will share with you fellas tommorow
the seasonic M700 watt really is a single rail PSU in sheeps clothing, by that I mean they have built it to appear as a multi railed unit but when disected its actually a single rail monster but the 600 is not if you are going to run cross fire then I would say definetly grab either the 700 watt seasonic or the Thermal Take toughpower 850 the trio 650 would be out of its league with the crossfire 1900's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151031 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151030 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153043 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194020 all these with the exception of the 600 watt will run the xfire set-up with no sweat

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
Well if it's any consilation, I love the case, though the stock power supply wasn't strong enough to run my setup so the raidmax went somewhere else. Nothing to report on, but It was definitely a 450 or lower supply. I'm sorry I stirred up all the Raidmax haters. Though, it does show the users a point that needs to be considered about price defining quality. Then take into account the many people popping in with their opinions. I totally agree in the world of Power Supplies, you certainly can't go wrong with antec. I've been using them for years in corporate configurations.

Re: looking to upgrade my current PSu
Phew. My $18 eBay 600watt special isn't on the list... Actually I have a feeling it is below these standards if that's possible. Actually it's been rock solid for 6 months and I run a ton of stuff including a 10K SCSI drive.
Here's a generic name for you. POWORK model PW-600 Native SATA & 20/24 ATX I just remember grabbing it on eBay when I realized that I was rushing into grabbing more Core Duo 2 because it was on sale that I didn't have a PSU to run the bad boy. So I had to let it collect some dust before the eBay supply arrived. Thank God it worked. But At the time there wasn't a supply under $100 at Fry's at that time and without having reviewed anything on that high of a level I wasn't going to just pick one... So the eBay one was supposed to hold the fort, but frankly, it hasn't cause any problems and My machine runs 24/7, overclocked from a total of 4.2ghz to 5.4ghz and never crashes with XP Pro. Though when I was testing Vista x32 Premium, it wouldn't stay up without crashing and/or locking up. Go Figure. Quote:
