Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

I recently put a new computer together, and when I started it up it would stay on for about 30 seconds and then reboot. I was wondering if it could be the extra 4 pins on the mobo that aren't filled?

Or could it be something else?

Thanks

My specs are
MSI 975X Platinum V.2 LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard

MSI RX1950PRO-TD256E Radeon X1950PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

I also have some flashy lights and 4 fans plus the CPU fan and GPU fan.

Windows isn't even installed yet I can't get to the BIOS screen cause there seems to be no signal to my monitor.

Any Ideas? Is it the 4pin connector slot

Re: Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

Where exactly is the slot for the extra 4 pins? Is it by the cpu, or
the 20pin power connector? For example does the main power connector
seem like its not full, like missing 4 pins?

Re: Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

dude; dont even waste your time with that PSU! Raidmax is a waste of natural resources!

look for the Antec TRIO 650 watt PSU at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com

the antec trio 650 has the eight pin CPU power plug you need for your motherboard!

You should have a power supply that compliments your motherboard with the right 8 pin power connector.

Damn Joe, I need to take a typing class..LOL

Thats not that good to start with, most P/S that come with cases are not all that great! Most boards that have the 8 pin power connector that does not require using all 8 pins will have a cap over 4 of the pins. So if your board did not come with a cap over 4 of the pins then your required to use a 8 pin cpu power connector!

Re: Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

Im outta the loop, wasnt aware of a 8pin power connector. What I get
for working on p4s and p3s. I have built one dual core and the 20+4 pin
connector threw me off a little cause there wasnt any directions, but I
used common sense and it worked. Gotta luv it, lol.

Re: Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

the newer PSU specs and boards coming out will all be 8 pin cpu power and 150 watts is suppose to be the new standard for a pci slot >>>> increased from the now 75 watt pci slot standard ?

I just found "for sure" that the detachable 4 pin from the 20 plus 4 pin motherboard connector is the PCI slot power I had "heard" it previously but just recently was relayed that from a mobo manufacturer!

Re: Comp Restarting 'cause of 8pin slot on mobo?

If I were looking to save money couldn't I just buy a converter? 4 pin to 8 pin?

Or is 500 watts not enough?

and if it isn't can you recommend something better? Thanks

PS I have a E6600 Dual Core forgot to mention that if that matters.

I found http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153042

Is this any good?
