RAM Installation Issues [RESOLVED]
Hi, I'm using the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+. It features the dual channel ddr & previously it has two 512 RAMS by Corsair (VS512MB400).
Recently, i tried to make use of the dual channel feature by slotting in two new RAM sticks by TWINMOS. Both sticks are 512mb too. I inserted them according to the appropriate ddr channels. Channel A: Slot 1 & 3 has the Corsair, Channel B: Slot 2 & 4 has the TWINMOS. This is according to the booklet so I'm pretty sure its right. I tried putting all of them however, my computer could run but the computer screen was blank. I removed all the RAMs & inserted the new TWINMOS into Channel A, where the old RAMs used to be. The computer screen showed me Windows. So now I'm sure that the RAM is not faulty. My problem is, why can't the RAMs work even when they are slotted in the right channels. I fully well know that it is advised to use the same RAM type but I could not find them any more being sold. I used this programme called CPU-Z, & it showed me 2gig of RAM memory is present but my control panel under My System shows me only 1gig. Does it have anything to do with adjusting the memory clock? http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/memory...00el/index.htm <<<- that is the site I went to, but i cannot figure out head or tail what is wrong. Thanks for reading this cause I know its quite lengthy. I appreciate your reply. |

The reason it's not working is due to incompatibility issues - you must use dual channel RAM that are all matched - when i say this it must have the same bandwith, manufacturer and also size (it may work for a while, but wont do so for ever). These will come in kits to prevent stuff like this happening. You now have to foot out more money to get them matched, either get new sticks of your old RAM or two sticks of your new RAM.
Good luck, Nick. Last edited by MaverickUK : 03-05-2007 at 08:53 AM. |
