Is this a PSU problem?
This happened to me recently,
I fired up my PC, and when it came time to boot my hard drive a few seconds later, I heard a clicking sound, and an error popped up regarding a drive not found. Reboot solved the problem. The next time I fired up PC, PC did nothing whatsoever, no power at all. Stand by power is there (keyboard, LED USB etc...) But will not start up whatsoever. (This happened to me a few months ago, but mysteriously fixed iteself when I brought my PC to a tech-buddy for help. He thought I was losing it or possibly drunk) PSU is SPI(SPARKLE POWER)MODEL FSP300-60ATV 300W DC 115/230V AC Motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-8IG1000MK REV:1.0 All connections checked and look fine. No evidence of damage or burning. Should I buy a new PSU? Thanks in advance for any input or help. |

Check your hard drive first, download the utility for your drive here:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 With a 300 watt sparkle, you would not be doing yourself an injustice by replacing it with a quality supply. |

Your system specs would be good to know. When you heard the pop
did it come from the psu?, or could you tell. You need to take a sniff around the psu fan, is there a oder of burnt plasic? and signs of smoke. Get a flashlight and peer into psu, look for signs of fire, or smoke, the smell will be the tell tale sign.

More info
Here is more info on my PC, (pardon my ignorance, but I peeked into the case for some of this info)
1024 Blitz DDR Ram Hitachi 7200 RPM 123.5 GB HD SB Audigy Z2S Radeon 9600 SE (I think, couldnt find the manual, and not on the card which model) DVD player/CD burner (not sure model, but its nothing fancy) P4 333MHZ NIC not sure the model This PC has operated fine for a few years, light gaming mostly. Also note: the small LED on my motherboard has not been on since this problem started. I am not sure if it is usually on or not, when the PC is off, but it has not been on at all. I have tried starting without the RAM (someone advised me to try it), but nothing. I have not seen smoke, smelled smoke, or any other indication of a freakish electrical malfunction. I have inspected my PC's inards as thoroughly as anyone can. The only unusual sound I heard from it, was the Hard Drive making a "clicking" sound the second last time my PC was able to boot up. The sound was not there the last time I used my PC, and after that, it refuses to start. I have considered trying to find a different start button to check that angle as well, but havent found a spare one yet. Thanks again for any help |

RESOLVED-I hope
After undescribable frustration, and a beer or two, I went and tore out every removable piece and connection, and re-installed the components of my case.
Voila, she works! I was reading a lot of posts on these forums, and I commend you guys for the input and help you provide. Donation to follow. |

when the m/b light is off,it means no power from the psu to the m/b
the plug may not have been saeted properly or it may have built up corrosion on the pins and reseating may have cleared it off
