Curious about compatibility

Hey, I'm new to this forum so first off just want to say hi.
I've got myself a 256mb DDR266 stick of RAM sitting here in front of me on my desk, and I'd love to just drop it in that empty slot and boost my box up to a somewhat respectable 512. I've got Compaq Presario SR1410NX and the crucial scanner tells me that I can put DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 in it to increase the level.
So I'm just wondering if this stick I have here will work in my cpu.
If anyone can answer that I'd greatly appreciate the input.
Thanks in advance

RAM speeds are often confusing- they have two different numbers in the spec. 266 should be the same as 2700- you can check the table here; I'm pretty sure that's fine.

The only thing about adding another stick of RAM is that if you have faster RAM in the machine already than you're putting in now, it'll lower the speed of the rest of the chips to compensate for as long as the slower chip is there.

I wouldn't worry about that though- any machine that came with 256MB is unlikely to have a chip faster than pc2700, and the performance gain in going from 256 to 512 would more than make up for it even if it had been faster.

Idea

Well ram is very hit and miss, as one of our own guy's is finding out ATM lol, >>>Here<<< is their page to do with ram which may be of use to you, at first look it may work, but you need to find out your current rams details to know more, worst case if they are slightly different it will run at the speed of the slowest ram, so if the specs are close enough give it a try, if it doesn't run try a different slot, if it works great, if not then your out of luck take it out and continue as you are, hope that helps a bit.

Try it to find out. There's no harm in doing so as long as you read the motherboard manual on this beforehand.

Like 8210GUY said, its a mix and match with different motherboards. The DDR266 is PC2100, the DDR333 is PC2700 and the DDR400 is PC3200.
