Ram upgrade problems

Ok i have an older Dell. Dimension 8200 with 256MB of ram. I bought an additional 256MB to uprgrade it. They came out of another Dimension 8200. After putting the ram into the computer it was fine for a short while, but the computers speed was still sluggish, no difference. Then the blue screen error would pop up multiple times. I reformatted and reinstalled windows with the additional 2 sticks of ram in the computer and i still get the same blue screen error. Often while booting it says system memory changed, memory read failure. I took the 2 sticks out that i purchased and left the original two in and put the other sticks back in place , i dont know what they are, they are slim and dont say anything, but now it has the original 2 128.s and the 2 blank ones and it runs fine now. How can i get the computer to run good with the additional 256MB of ram?

They are rdram, and you need an exact match here

If you did get the exact matching RAM and you get BSODs with the new RAM, try reseating it properly and swapping them around in slots. Try also running only one each and see if you get a problem. Run Memtest86 with both in singly to see which one's faulty and if they work right in the first slot, try the second slot individually with memtest.

I have tried moving the 4 different sticks in different slots, swapping them in almost any possible order and nothing changed. I put just just 1 in for each of them and they caused problems. They are an exact match. Faulty hardware? Person said they will either swap them or full refund.

RDRAM:
Try running the 2 new ones with the 2 blanks. With Rambus memory all slots must be filled.

I have 4 sticks of 128. I was wanting to have at least 512 of ram. If i put the 2 new stick with 2 blanks it would be a pointless purchase.

No, the point was to check if your new sticks are the source of the problem and not the motherboard.
