Hi Dave,

While there are some excellent trouble shooting tips in this treatise, there is also an aura of negativity IMHO. I just don't think I will sit worring about things like what might be made in China and how it might get broken in shipment. Don't misunderstand, I purchase USA parts and supplies whenever I can, but the world has changed and so I have adopted and changed also. When I find a problem, I just fix it and move on. All the negativity and expressed concerns that the sky is falling in won't help me keep my computer running. Again, I want to reinforce that a lot of things mentioned were excellent trouble shooting tips.

Dave, unless I have misread you and the way you approach problems, I suspect you too get things done and move on. When the next problem comes (without worrying too much about it), I think you will jump in and get it done and taken care of. Feel free to correct me if I have read you wrong, but I don't think Dave dwells on the small stuff.

Please let us know if we can help further.

Hi Tumble,

No your right, I do fix and move on.... dont like to dwell on things as I doesn't do any good - gets you no further.

I have a new case and the only remaining old parts that are plugged in are 2 HDD's and my Audigy 2 card......however there is some truth in what he was saying:

The main reason for this new pc/upgrade is that my old PSU that lived for about a year chucked it....it was cheapo and I have learn my lesson.....but the part that killed it could still be in there, the same part that might of killed the Liberty.

However it could just be the cheapo wattage faded and just died and that the Liberty was faulty... atleast thats what I hope. I remember having some dvd drive errors in event log ages ago....and that the night before the Liberty died I was playing with the sound settings / configuration as the centre channel volume seemd unusally low.....just things I ponder.

This is a new begining tho and once I have my new memory and drives installed I will be content. Will just keep an eye on the voltage readings for a while to make sure they are stable.

At the moment only the VoreA is fluctuating slightly at 1.25v which I have read is normal.

My System

First off I would have to agree with Tumble 100% while there is some decent info in there; IMHO the content as a whole is of little value, generic statements like parts from China; has not tangible benefit. There are easy methods to distinguish between cheap, mid-grade and high end PSU's but the average consumer is not willing to research or ask what he 'should" get. We like to "sell" ourselves on that nice, pretty 650 watt; no name PSU thats sells for $59.00

Enermax produces decent units & high quality units, however the onus lies upon the system specifier! Its the builders responsibility to know the power requirements of the system being built as well as the cost for such a system. You simply dont put a mid grade PSU into an upper end high performance or power hungry system.

IMHO FAR more components are ruined by the builder selecting a power plant that is not up to the job of powering the intended system.

28% of memory sticks returned to the manufacturer's are the result of inadaquate PSU's toasting them.

I dont understand why we all crave the hotest most expensive CPU, motherboards, fastest drives, high performance memory and then throw in a mid grade PSU or very undersized one.

Thats the equalivant of putting no name oil in a Lamborgini; then taking it to the races!

Yes just to add a little: every PSU trips off at certain overloads above their specified. As long as they run good at their specified power output, there's no downside to PSU's. Just be aware of what your power demands are when putting a system together. Most individuals make the same mistake as they do when looking at a CPU's and thinking, "Hey up! 3.2 GHz Pentium and AMD 4800 only 2.4Ghz!!! I'm going for the faster one obviously!"

They do that in complete ignorance, because the AMD 4800 is roughly 20% faster than the Pentium 3.2GHz in reality! The P4 has around 31 stage pipeline while the AMD has about 15! That will be what determines speed and accuracy of the processing.

Anyway, so just be careful and know the people here have decent amounts of knowledge and daily experience, so you won't find them short on anything found elsewhere, I tell ya.
