Idea

Another point to consider is the fact that currently your saving $30 on the price of it, not sure when they swap their offers round but you may want to bear that in mind before it gets to late and it goes back up in price.

Erm, my edit time is over, but if I could I'd delete the first suggestion in my above post definitely. Sorry.

This link given by Blackduck for a PSU recommendation above doesn't work any more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817163108

hell thats no deal for a Hiper >>>>>> Hiper is not bad, but it aint worth no $130.00

heck; you can get an Antec 650 watt three 12volts rails unit for that and the antec (really made by seasonic) is 85% efficent!

look for the efficiency rating on that Hiper ????? i cant find it??

this surely is no glowing review; not a bad review like I say mediocre PSU for ther high end class of machines

QUOTED from link:
This PSU isn't all just good looks, its performance is also solid. Voltages were all within spec, though a little high under a light load. Efficiency was about typical for any high-end power supply. Ripple was well within specs.

For all the hype that surrounded this power supply though, I can't say that it really something revolutionary that blew away my expectations. The actual internal design (the "guts") is really not that different than what you would find in any good quality power supply. The Type-R differentiates itself more by the custom cabling & chassis designs, which too is an important aspect of a good PSU. All in all, if someone was looking for a PSU that was just a little different than the rest, then I would not hesitate to recommend this PSU for them to consider.

I still back Blackduck's recommendation, that silverstone 650 w for $110 is a steal.

Make sure you get at least a 650 w PSU for the 7950, most anything less won't cut it. Put your specs into the PSU calculator and add 30 % just to make sure. Also, leave like 20 or so watts in case you want to add other things like a sound card later.

Another vote for Blackduck's suggestion.

Let me tell you a little story...
A computer I had a while back (I built it before coming to this forum) needed a new power supply when I upgraded the video card. I thought to myself, I'll just save on the powersupply and take the money I save for future upgrades. I bought a Thermaltake power supply, which is medium quality. I thought medium quality would be good enough. However I was wrong. About 6 months to a year down the road I started experiencing problems. Shortly after starting to get these problems I lost my computer. The power supply took out the motherboard and CPU. I was surprised that the memory and video card actually lived. Even the harddrive had problems.
Now, I 'only' lost a Celeron, harddrive, and nice motherboard, but think about what you could lose if that happened to you. You don't want to risk losing a 7950, do you?

My suggestion is don't go with anything less watts or quality than Blackduck's suggestion. Even if you have to wait another week or two before ordering the power supply to make sure that you can afford the good quality one.

Good luck!

The deal is for $95 and the efficiency is rated at 80-85% given 9.5/10 for most overlocking forum reviews. I have 5 close friends who have it and are extreme overlockers yet it runs perfect for them since at least 6 months now.

Comments: This PSU has a very nice looking UV glowing unit with a lot of good reviews by the over-clocking crowd (check their website). There are many units in the power desktop group for about this budget that do not have all the features this one has at this price. We also recommend the more powerful version of this power supply the OCZ Model OCZ700GXSSLI with a very powerful 700 watts of power for a very good price of $169.99. One can not go wrong with either of these outstanding units.

Comments: The PSU manufacturer claims this unit out cools any other dual fan unit on the market due to honey comb construction. This is a super high efficienty, active PFC, and tested as one of the select super quiet PSU units on the market. The Seasonic is a very strong contender for this class of computer.
We also recommend the new and more powerful Seasonic 650 watt power supply. This unit has the same excellent features of the Seasonic 600 watt recommended above with more power for demanding users. Seasonic PSU's are the quietest on the present market while offering more power for a very minimal cost increase. This unit sells for approximately $165.00.

Comments: Outstanding unit that is crossfire video compatible. This baby has power to burn with quad power rails and its own 12V rail will power each video card. This PSU is definitely for high-end video purists. We also recommend the Silverstone - ST65ZF – 650 Watts power supply. This unit has many of the great features of the above power supply with a more budget approach. This recommended supply has 650 Watts and is available for only $169.99. Both of these PSU’s are excellent purchases at the price.

I would not buy that unit until you find out its eff rating and what power factor correction it has >>>>>>> active or passive

a high end computer system should have a PSU with active PFC
