Confused Problems With My Sd Ram

Hi there i moved my computer today to move my desk about and when i went to put it back together it wouldnt boot up. the hard drives wasnt working (I have two) so I got a friends to help and we checked all the conections and they was all ok, Still it wouldnt work so he took one of the memory sticks out and it worked. we put it back and it wouldnt boot up again. the memory stick thats the problem is a 256, we tried another 256 and that wouldnt work so its now only got 2 128 sticks in . is it the mother board?
