Coolmax 550W psu
I was looking at buying a new gaming system. There's a combo deal with this PSU and I was wondering if anyone new anything about it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159033 Read the great sticky by Tumbleweed, but for $30+ difference is it taking too much of a chance to slap that in a system that will probably run hot when gaming? Any thoughts would be great, thanks. Reading this makes me dizzy LOL (+3.3V@30A, +5V@50A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, -12V@1A, +5VSB@2.5A) |

thats the exact info you need to look at and think what parts will go into your system. as you see there are two 12v rails wich is good and both running at 18Amps wich is also good. i would not necessarily suggest this PSU to a high powered gaming rig but for the regular midrange this should do. As you can read in some of the reviews of of newegg, some ppl had some heat issues with it and others had a great experience. the heat issues were apparently caused due to overclocking and someone not knowing what they were doing so i would say u are alright with that purchase but i wouldnt stuff a geforce8 or 7950gx2 etc in there. ill let others chime in too

Hi,
IMHO, this is not a good power supply for a gaming machine. You will have great difficulty finding any power supply worth much for less than $90 in this wattage range. You might want to take a look at an Enermax, Antec, Fortron, Sparkle, or one of those QUALITY supplies before you purchase. The one you are suggesting IS NOT a quality power supply and the thirty bucks you are talking about saving might be the worst bargain you ever make with this computer. These are a real bargain: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...NE&N=0&Ntk=all

Yep yep yep. I was afraid of that.
Shaving off psu money to buy better graphics card, when I knew that would require a better psu not a cheaper one. T hanks for the help you two. And nice sticky tumbleweeds, that helped me out a lot in looking at those cheap cases w/ psu in them. Saved me from rma'ing a couple psu's I'm sure.!! FR you're all over the place! thanks for all the advice in this and my other post!! |
