hi im new to the forum,
I have just installed an Aquarius 2 Liquid cooling system in to my machine in the hope of quieting my machine down and giving me adequate cooling to overclock slightly now i have achived my first goal except for one flaw, The RAM (i think) is making a squeaking sound when i; download data, scroll down on web pages, data comes in or out of the ethernet port ( i can see the "act" led from where i sit) and its getting quite irratating now. I thought maybe the ram was not cool enough beacuse it was a bit warm when the system was on (considerably Warmer than my CPU waterblock which was almost stone cold) .... so i bought some ramsinks for my ram. I installed them ... no change. i have changed VGA cards since then so thats definately not the culprit and the powerpack is 470w brand new also. anyone any ideas what this may be... Never heard of anything like it before anywhere and google shows up nothing THanks in advance # Mick |

I actually have heard of this before. There is no remedy that I know of, other than switching it out for different sticks. Most people never notice it even if they have it, because their fans and drives make enough noise to cover it.

Thanks for the prompt reply,
i have actually tried that but i only replaced the ram with the same kind of value elixir ddr 400 and the noise remains, maybe a little quieter but its still there. its definately sounds like and electrical noise maybe its the capacitors on the board..... more investigation to follow.... I WILL have a silent PC lol Ill post my findings here and thanks again. Mick |

Sorted
I finally figured out what was causing my ram to make noises. i still dont know why it would but anyway...
I stripped my system except for the cooling system RAM Hdd all unnesecary peripherals then tested again for the noise it was still there but slightly quieter .. so i thought maybe it was the powerpack even tho it was new and 500w it was still bugdet, so i got another 600w better quialty one and rebuilt my system. now the ram noises are gone. Conclusion: A. dont buy cheap powerpacks - no matter how high the wattage. can any mod explain why it would cause noises? Thanks again Mick |

Cheap psu's can cause alot of undesirable results especially when they struggle, I have never used watercooling so I never heard of ram making noise maybe because my systems just ain't that quiet but maybe it was a vibration??? from the psu???
Maybe the psu was struggling to supply the ram with the correct voltage, I can only speculate Mick thanks for sharing this with us and I totally agree with your conclusion "dont buy cheap powerpacks - no matter how high the wattage" |
