HP Deskjet 3550 running like a tortoise

i own a hp deskjet 3550. All of a sudden it became very slow. now it prints 1 page in 7 to 8 mins. the catridge slide back and forth once then waits for about 20 seconds and does the same again.

i am talking about printing a ordinary text doc at 300dpi fast draft.
i dont know what is wrong.

firstly update all your drivers, because there could be a communication fault between the pc and printer
