Dell LaserJet 1700n - Out of Paper error message even though there is paper??

Hi,

First off, my printer has paper. This problem only happens first thing in the morning. I turn my computer and printer off after my work is done for the day. When I return in the morning, I turn the printer and computer back on. Oh, the computer is running W2K Pro. The first time I print something, I receive an error message which states:

"There was an error found when printing the document "Test Page" (or what ever other document that might be printed from the PC) to LPT1:. The printer is out of paper.
Do you want to retry or cancel the job?
Retry (option block) Cancel (Option block)
This is a stand alone PC, not networked."

If I cancel the job, I can print anything after this with no problems. I've been dealing with this problem for 3 weeks and want to just get it resolved. I've tried removing the printer and downloading the latest drivers and installing the printer again. I tried a Firmware update. I've been told to disable the bidirectional printing, but that just makes a mess of garbled info when I try to print.

If I turn the printer and computer off and wait for a few minutes and turn them back on, I can still print with no problems. It's like the printer needs more than an hour or 2 to reset itself and then the problem comes back.

Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
Thank you for your help,
Joe
