Printer Port Creation - Windows XP Media Edition
Windows XP Media Edition (I am administrator) - I'm trying to add a phantom printer that will print to a file, which I've done before in other versions of Windows, even Windows XP Home. I start in Control Panel with Add Printer. I ask to add a new "Local Port". I am then prompted for a port name. I insert a name and get message "Specified Port cannot be added. Operation is not possible." I've tried working around this by allowing the Wizard to create a printer port for me, LPT1 Generic/Text Only, then try to edit within "Properties" by asking to add a port there, but at the prompt for a port name, depending what I enter, I either get the same message mentioned above or "Access Denied". I can't figure out what's going on. I simply want to add a new "local port" and cannot!!! Any suggestions?
