error message when installing HP 8500 printer on server
Not sure if this should go in this thread or the networking thread, but I'm running in to a problem installing an HP 8500 color printer on a windows 2003 server set up as a print server. When I get to the last step and the drivers are installing I get this message...
Unable to install printer. Windows cannot install this printer until your system administrator first installs a new driver for it on the print server. Or, to install a driver on your computer without the assistance of your system administrator, run the print troubleshooter and select the option that contains this message: “The current printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks windows NT 4.0 or windows 2000 kernel-mode drivers” There's not a permission issue because my account is part of the domain admin group, and I also tried this logged in as the administrator. I ran the print troubleshooter and there is no such message that appears as an option. I've also ran this message through the microsoft knowledge base and no luck. I've installed a number of other printers and have not had any problems, both HP and Dells. I've tried different drivers from the HP website...windows 2000, NT, XP, the drivers that come as part of the operating system...and I've tried the PCL and postscript drivers. I've also gone in to the security policy and there's an item specifically for blocking kernel-mode drivers, but it's not enabled. any ideas??? |
