Two HP printer issues

Ok so I had an HP printer but after awhile the computer told me that there was a cartridge error. I couldn't figure it out so I got another printer from my friend that I am borrowing. It is an HP psc 2170 series. Surely enough I plug it in and set it up and it gives me the cartridge error again. I have reinstalled the cartridges cleaned them, and tried anything i have found. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Two HP printer issues

Is it the same model printer? Uninstall and reinstall the printer software and drivers using Add and Remove Programs, reboot, then reinstall.

Re: Two HP printer issues

1.On the front panel, press the Menu or Setup button (depending on the model).
2.Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press the OK or Enter button (depending on the model).
3.The Clean Print Cartridges message should display on the front panel. Press Enter or OK to begin the cartridge cleaning process.
