Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
My computer is a HP A6623uk with a Narra3 M/board, running Visat Premium 32 bit. I have a Samsung ML4500 Laser printer connected through a parallel card. It all worked fine untill recently, i had some problems with the computer slowing down ect, so i did a complete manufactors re-install. Since then when i load the samsung Vista software the computer crashes, and after that when booting up it crashes every time just as the desktop page starts to open. I get the Blue screen of death. I reinstalled again back to the original setting and just put the Samsung drivers on, same again, i did think it may have been the parallel card, but this causes no problems at all. The printer works fine on my old laptop with XP pro on it, so its not a hardware fault. I am loath to dump the printer as it does all i want, and i ahve just fitted a new ink cartridge. I would love to put XP on the PC, but HP don't support it with any drivers. No apparent problems show on the Samsung site. Any ideas at all. I have never liked Vista, its been one problem after another.

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
Are you sure your Vista is 32bit, not 64? The printer driver is 32, not 64?
Does the parallel card work with any other printer? Could be the buss is too fast for it. You may want to try the XP driver. |

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
Its definatley 32bit,don't think it a card problem, i have tried uninstalling he card, and as soon as i try to install the printer software the pc crashes showing the blue screen. The printer driver is 32 bit, its from the Samsung web site. What i can't understand is it all worked fine untill reset the pc back to its original state.I am reluctant to try the xp driver, as i am so sick of having to re- install everything after it all crashes. I have no other printer to try with the parallel card, but i can't see it beig the card.

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
How does the printer connect to the "parallel card"? Do you have the drivers installed for the "parallel card"?
Goto Control Panel / Device Manager / and look for any devices with a yellow !

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
Drivers installed for the card, computer connects with parallel printer cable. I have removed the card and tried installing just the Samsung Printer Software, and it crashes every time i try to install it,causes big problems in that the only real way to sort it out is a full hard drive re-install Vista . I have made it slightly easier in that i used Arconis True image to clone the computer working ok, still takes a hour to sort though. I have googled this problem with the Samsung and i don't seem to be the only one who has had the problem, but not seen any solutions. Samsung don't want to know, and most tell me to give up on the printer...shame in a way as it does all i want.

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
The Vista drivers likely aren't written to support communication through a parallel port. I could be wrong, but this isn't a typical install.

Re: Samsung ML4500 Vista problem
Thanks for all the advice, i have deceided to dump Vista and put XP Pro on instead. HP have been excellent in giving me all help with drivers for there PC and XP Drivers. I know then the printer will work and this won't cost me anything as i allready have XP Pro,just my time in setting it all up. I was loathe to dump the printer, ok its old but the print quality is excellent, its fast and quiet, and does all we need.
