HP deskjet 722C printer

I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 537 tower, which was offered with Vista, but I had downgraded to XP, so as to use my old HP deskjet 722C printer with it, since Vista would not accomodate this printer. The printer has the old parallel port, and the new tower has only a USB connection to accomodate a printer. I purchased an adapter cable that facilitates connecting the two, but when attempting to have the computer recognize this printer, I kept getting messages that the LPT 1 port could not be found, or the Driver was not signed, or the Driver was corrupted. Numerous attempts to install/uninstall netted the same results. HP no longer gives support on this ten-year-old printer. I tried downloading, from HP the updated driver required, but it did not help. At the end of installation on two occasions, I tried the "test print page" and the first line was printed, before the "failure to print" error message appeared. I'm at a loss at this point...any suggestions?

Re: HP deskjet 722C printer

Try to add a printer from the Printers and Faxes folder. Use the same port LPT 1 and use the driver hp deskjet 990c. Let me know on the result. Please check also for any driver conflicts in the device manager before proceeding. Let me know if you see any exclamation marks on the device manager or any unknown device (marked in yellow).

Re: HP deskjet 722C printer

HP informs me that this printer is not compatible and will not work with my attempted configuration. Thanks all for your attempted support.
