Angry Grey-out on photos?

I know this is technically about a scanner, but it's a printer-scanner and I didn't really know where else to put it.
I have been scanning lots of photos into my computer, but every 5 or so is ending up partly greyed out (or almost all greyed out:S). They appear fine when I fisrt view them, but later show the error when I brose through them in windows explorer.
I've been scanning with Canon Pixma MP800R and using Irfanview, which I have upgraded and reinstalled.
Any helpwould be great as I am wasting heaps of time scanning at 600dpi and losing so many photos.

Re: Grey-out on photos?

The only thing that comes to mind, would be to uninstall and reinstall the software. It's possible you are seeing the previews (which look fine) and not the actual scan. So it could be a scanner issue, or just a software issue.
