Installation of HP 6980

Hi. I have bought a HP 6980 printer which is wireless. I have got it for quite a long time now, maybe 4 years. And since I have bought it, I have never been able to resolve the printing issue. The printer is is wireless mode, and installed it different ways, but for some reason, the IP addres of the printer changes automatically. It is always on a different IP address, and when I select that one for the ports tab in the properties for printers, it works. But then for say, in a couple of days, the IP address will change again.
I have installed the printer with the software CD thats comes with it, through adding printers in the printing properties in the control panel, even with a help from a technician.

My question is why does it do that? What is the correct way to install this printer?

Re: Installation of HP 6980

You can also try to set the ip address of your printer as manual, so your printer wont jump into another ip address because obviously, your printer's ip address is set to automatic, you need to access EWS (embeded web server) by opening a internet browser and typing the ip address of the printer. You can set the ip address of the pinter there and set ip adress as manual then enter the ip address so it will assign a permanent ip address of the printer then restart your printer manually.

Re: Installation of HP 6980

Oh ya I just saw that today, and was wondering if I had to do that. SO just type what IP i want it to run at, and it will be there always? Ok I'll do that.

Another question, when typing in the ip address in the bar, it also asks for manual subnet mask and manual default gateway. What do I enter there?

Re: Installation of HP 6980

Subnet mask always uses 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway, you can find that information in your computer by going to Start/Run/ type "CMD" in the black prompt type "ipconfig" and you can find the default gateway.

Re: Installation of HP 6980

Ok got that figured out, what goes under "DNS Address Configuration". There are two slots, Manual Preferred DNS Server: and Manual Alternate DNS Server:

What do I type in there?

You can ask that information from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). They have the information for your DNS.

Yes since the DNS is only for you exclusively.
