Dell 720 black ink problems

Hi!
I inherited a printer from the person living in my house before me, the black ink cartridge ran out yesterday so I tried to install a new one - no ink came through at all when I tried to print. So I bought a new cartridge and tried to use it this morning - with this one the ink does come through but it's very streaky, and when I tried to print a page of text it was so streaky that it was unreadable. Help please! I should mention that both cartridges are not official Dell ones, but the compatible (cheaper!) ones. They are different makes though.

Hi clueless87...it looks like that you bought a bad ink, I would return it and get a replacement, see if this helps. I know what you're saying about inks/toners they are very pricey.

I think you choose a cheap cartridge and that's why you got this problem.Cheap ink cartridges are not good always.You have to take care while choosing it.
