Printer Sharing over network with 32bit and 64bit
Hello forum,
I encountered a problem that I have never encountered before while trying to help a friend set up printer sharing. The thing is that they got a new computer, a 64bit vista and I have trouble adding it to the network. Before, all 2 computers were 32 bit xp, so printer sharing was a snap. But this new 64 bit computer keeps giving me an error when trying to connect to \\192.168.1.102\printer. The printer is hooked up to a windows xp 32 bit machine like always, but 64 bit vista can't connect, I assumed because of driver issues, as the 32 bit machine doesn't have 64 bit drivers installed of course. What options do I have? Before I tried hooking up printer to 64 bit machine, but all 32 bits can't connect so... at least this way 2 computers can print as opposed to 1. The printer is a dell aio a940. Any help would be appreciated. Last edited by lbrtdy; 10-09-2009 at 09:48 PM. |

Your done 1) Establish a working wireless network (follow manufacturers instructions) 2) Attach the printer to its host computer 3) Be able to print from the host 4) Enable File and Print sharing on the host 5) Set the printers properties to be shared 6) Add a network printer on the client via the Add Printer Wizard Printer Sharing on XP/Vista Network Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computername\printername or \\ipaddress\printername Let us know how it goes or if any other questions, ty.
