Printer Driver failing to install?[MOVED]

Hello! I purchased a Lexmark x4580 printer. IT seems impossible to install however. I tried installing software on the CD that came with the printer, but the printer still refuses to show up in the printer folder on the start menu. that means i cannot pick my printer in whatever program in order to print.

What to do? My laptop runs Vista 32b.

PLEASE, tell us in great detail what error you're getting, hows it's 'failing', etc . . . where did you get the driver? Screengrabs of the error would work wonders.

I've tried installing the driver for printer that came on CD disk as well as downloading the appropiate one from lexmark website. There are no errors whatsoever. I install the drivers using the setup.exe file, and it works great. The printer just doesnt show up in the printers folder on the start menu.

Your printer IS working, it's just not showing up in your printers folder on your start menu?

Precisely, though "just not showing up" is a bi-h since it means i cant print :p

Do you know where you installed it?

It should be in C:\Program Files . . .

If so, where it's executable - lexmark.exe, etc, it will end with .exe.

C:\Program Files\Lexmark 3500-4500 Series\ though i cant find a lexmark.exe

The downloaded driver package (self extracing zip) places the files in c:\lexmark and there's just a setup.exe in there, no lexmark.exe

I should have specified that I didn't mean "lexmark.exe", I meant - do you see anything ending with the .exe extension?

OK, the following files have .exe extension, within the c:\program\lexmark directory:

app4r.exe
autoprnt.exe
lexocr.exe
lxdiamon.exe
lxdimon.exe

What happens when you execute lexocr.exe?

Do you have an icon on your desktop referring to your lexmark printer?

Nothing happend =(

I double clicked, marked and hit enter...nothing visible happens.

Dang - I'm trying to find the executable for your printer, so we can make a shortcut where you want it to be . . .

Click all of them - can't hurt - which ones shows a dialog?

I don't know a great deal about printers . . .

Is it suppose to make that shortcut, or have you seen this before, or are you guessing/assuming?

well, one of them opened "Lexmark Imaging Studio" though i'm still unable to find the printer on the laptop. Windows just can't find the installed printer =(

Oddly, that's outside of the range.

I don't know if that's the problem - just pointing that out.

Anyways - when you plug in the printer (USB - I'm assuming) does it make any noise or recognize the printer? Most of the printers I installed on a Vista machine, didn't need the drivers from the company.. Vista's generic drivers usually worked.

Have you tried any of the drivers that are found online? Here's one that seems to be for you. Although - looking at the install file, it seems like it's going to be the same driver that you have on the CD.
