HP T1100 Roll Width Accuracy

Everyone,

We have several HP T1100 plotters and have had issues with the plotter reading the width of roll paper to the hundredth of an inch. This cause us problems when the width of the roll is a little shorter than it should be. For instance, we have a couple 34” rolls when loaded into the plotter is read to be 33.98”. Not 34 inches, but 33.98 inches. It seems crazy, but the plotter reads the width to the hundredth of an inch. The problem with that is when a 22”x34” plot (from AutoCAD, MicroStation, Adobe Reader, etc.) drawing is sent, the plotter determines that the 34” drawing is too wide for the 33.98” wide paper and rotates the drawing to portrait orientation. When we load other rolls that are 34.04” wide the same plot comes out oriented in landscape.

Here is what I’ve tried so far without any success;
Updated the driver and firmware to the latest versions.
Moved the roll away from the fixed spool end of the spindle.

A band-aid that does work is to “trick” the plotter in the preferences dialog by setting the roll one size bigger than what is loaded and then driver thinks the drawing will fit. This works but getting all the users to understand and remember this is not a viable solution.
